Marathon Monday

Yesterday was Patriot's Day here in Massachusetts and with it came the 113th running of the Boston Marathon. For as long as I can remember I've watched it on TV, but I'd never attended - although apparently my mom brought me when I was 2 but somehow that trip has slipped from my memory. So we headed over to my mom's place in Coolidge Corner in Brookline and made the 1 minute walk over to the course along Beacon St. at the about the 24-mile mark. Got there just in time for the men's wheelchair leader to fly by and stood in amazement for the next several hours as hundreds upon hundreds of folks poured by. People from all over the world - we even saw Captain America, Batman, Spiderman, and a dude dressed as a Hooter's girl. It was all pretty amazing and I'll be back again - no doubt.

Men's winner Deriba Merga from Ethiopa and 3rd-place finisher Ryan Hall from the US. Truly unbelievable that these guys average sub-5 minutes miles for the entire race:

A couple other scenes from the race including these young fans, and military members completing the 26.2 miles decked out in full gear and hauling full packs:
